Australia has an extraordinary diversity of Eucalyptus trees, and they naturally grow in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Here’s a few I’ve been lucky enough to meet, and some thoughts on why they might grow like they do.
Of course ecology is always complex, and there are no doubt many other factors that influence why a tree might be a certain shape.
This is the latest installment of my ‘Cartoon guide to Australian ecology’. The panels above are designed for social media, but I will be making a large postcard about ‘Eucalypt shapes’ too. The eventual aim is to collate all of these episodes into a book. See previous episodes here. If you’re a publisher or other organization who’d like to support this project, I’d love to hear from you 🙂
